Description

Two cottages, likely dating to the late 17th century, are situated on The Green in Swalcliff. They are constructed of regularly coursed ironstone rubble, with thatched roofs. Number 1, on the left, is a single-unit cottage with a brick end stack on a stone base. It is single storey with an attic. The front entrance is in the gable end facing the road. There are three wooden casements to the ground floor, each with a wooden lintel, one featuring ovolo moulding. A single 2-light casement is located in the attic, partially obscured by the thatch. The ground floor room contains an ovolo moulded beam and chamfered joists. Number 2, to the right, is a two-unit, single storey plus attic cottage. It has one brick end stack on the left, and another on the ridge to the right of the front door. A central 20th-century door is flanked by two 3-light casements, the one on the left also being 20th-century. Three eyebrow dormers project from the attic and each contains a 3-light casement. The interior of Number 2 has not been inspected.
