Description
This barn, located northeast of the Tithe Barn, dates back to the early 15th century. It features coursed squared ironstone rubble walls and the remains of a thatched roof. The structure consists of seven bays with central doorways, and there is an added porch on the north side along with a 19th-century extension to the west. The corners show remnants of diagonal buttresses. The gables and the south elevation, which has two later doorways and a later window, include ventilation slits with splayed internal reveals. Inside, there are upper cruck trusses with single collars, and some low collars that are secondary. Although it was in a ruinous state in 1985, the barn is significant because its details closely resemble those of the Tithe Barn, indicating that it was likely built around the same time as part of the rectorial farm established by New College.
