Description

The Old Bake House is a 17th-century house in Swalcliffe, located on Baker’s Lane. It is constructed of regular coursed ironstone rubble with a 20th-century tile roof, stone copings, and two brick stacks, one at the left end and one on the ridge. The original plan comprised two units. The house has a single storey with an attic. An entrance now leads into a 20th-century extension. The main elevation retains original stone mullions: a 3-light window on the ground floor and two 2-light windows in the attic storey. There are two 20th-century dormers in the roof. Despite being partially obscured by the 20th-century extension, the house retains its original form, including window openings to the side and rear.
