Description

The stable block at Swalcliffe Park is a building from the 17th century, with extensions and alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. It features coursed regular ironstone rubble on the sides and rear, while the main elevation is made of ashlar. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and there are two rendered brick stacks on the left side. The stable block consists of a two-unit section from the 17th century on the right and a three-unit section added later on the left. It is a single storey plus attic throughout.

The 17th-century part has a blocked wide door with a four-centred arch, which originally had a hood mould and label stops. To the left, there is a four-light stone mullioned window with a hood mould and label stops, and to the right, there are a four-light and a two-light window with stone surrounds and inserted casements, both also featuring hood moulds with label stops. The attic storey has four windows, including two- and three-light stone mullions, with one having a hood mould and label stops.

The 18th and 19th-century part on the left has two wide arched stable doorways in the centre, which have inserted 20th-century doors. To the left, there is a blocked keystoned door and a two-light window, while to the right, there is a two-light stone mullioned window. The attic floor has four windows, with two on the left having stone surrounds and oculi, and to the right, there is a two-light casement with lead cames and a single light window. A stone mounting block is located to the left of the blocked doorway in the 17th-century part. The interior has not been inspected.
