Description

Two houses, Lorien Cottage and Old Thatch, date from the 18th century. They are built of coursed regular ironstone rubble with a thatched roof, and have brick end stacks. Old Thatch is a two-unit plan building with a single storey and attic. A 20th-century door has an arched stone lintel decorated with rosettes in the spandrels. It is flanked by two wooden casement windows: a two-light casement to the left and a three-light casement to the right, both with stone flat arches. Two further two-light wooden casement windows are present on the first floor. A thatched hipped canopy porch is supported by stone corbels. Lorien Cottage, located to the left, is a single-unit plan building with a single storey and attic. It has a single three-light wooden casement window to the left of the front door, and a two-light casement window on the first floor with a stone flat arched lintel. The thatched canopy porch is similar to that of Old Thatch. Inside Lorien Cottage, a ground floor room features stop-chamfered spine beams and a bressumer over the fireplace. A wooden winder stair leads to the attic floor. The interior of Old Thatch was not inspected.
