Description

A pair of cottages dating from the late 17th century, situated on Bath Road in Atworth. The cottages are constructed of rubble stone with stone slate roofing; the left-hand side has a saddleback coped verge, while the right-hand side has plain coping. They feature gable end stone stacks. The cottages are two storeys high with a two-window arrangement. Number 56 has a partly glazed door to the right, a two-light recessed hollow-chamfered mullioned casement with a hoodmould and a blocked doorway to the left. Number 57 has a planked door and a two-light recessed cyma-mullioned casement to the right. The first floor of number 56 features a three-light hollow-chamfered mullioned casement to the left, while number 57 has a three-light cyma-mullioned casement to the right, with a small, blocked light positioned to the right of centre. Mullioned casements are also visible at the rear. This building demonstrates group value through its cohesive architectural style and historical significance within the Atworth streetscape.
