Description
The Clock Tower is a clock tower built in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee and also serves as a war memorial. It is constructed of rock-faced limestone with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate gabled roof. The tower has two stages, with a square lower stage. On the west side, there is a Maltese cross that includes a relief-carved profile of Victoria along with the dates of her reign, and a plaque commemorating the Second World War is located below it. The north side features a First World War memorial with a segmental pediment. An inscription on the east side notes the tower's erection in 1887. The south side has a chamfered pointed doorway with a planked door that has ornamental hinges. The offset bellcote includes chamfered round-arched openings on all sides, and there are clock faces on both the east and west sides. A weathervane marked with "VR" is also present. The funding for the tower was raised by subscription, with Mr. Fuller of Neston Park being the main contributor.
