Description

This building is a garage and stables located approximately 40 metres southeast of Fritwell Manor. It dates from the 17th century and was altered in the 20th century. The structure is made of coursed limestone with some ashlar dressings and wooden lintels, topped with a combination of Stonesfield-slate and thatch roofs. It is designed in an L shape and consists of one storey plus a loft.

The front of the building features, on the left, the gable of the return wing which has a restored marlstone three-light mullioned window. The other openings are mostly from the 20th century, except for a small marlstone window on the first floor. The roof of the lower right bay, which is a separate build, is thatched. The left return wall, which faces the forecourt of Fritwell Manor, has two four-light stone-mullioned windows, one of which is made of marlstone. Both windows have leaded glazing, with one featuring old diamond quarries. The rear of the wing has two blocked carriage entrances with lintels. The right side of the wing and the rear of the thatched section have large 20th-century garage doors. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value with Fritwell Manor.
