Description

Heath Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, possibly with earlier origins, and altered in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed of limestone rubble and marlstone rubble with wooden lintels, and has an asbestos-slate roof with stone-and-brick stacks. The building follows a 4-unit plan with a rear wing. The front has four window bays, with doorways located to the right of bays one and three. The ground floor contains casement windows of 3, 3, and 2 lights; the fourth bay is partially obscured by a small outbuilding. The upper part of the first floor steps back in places and has been raised using marlstone; the first-floor casements are 3-light windows from the 20th century. The steep-pitched roof is punctuated by stone-based stacks to the left gable and centrally. The rear of the main range and the lower rear wing feature additional casement windows, some dating to the 18th century. Internally, there are two large, back-to-back open fireplaces, one with inglenooks and small cupboards. Other features include stop-chamfered beams, panelled shutters, and a butt-purlin roof incorporating a heavy truss with curved feet to the principals, which may represent a raised cruck frame.
