Description

This is an early to mid-17th century house, now a vicarage, situated on the west side of East Street in Fritwell. The building is constructed from limestone rubble with wooden lintels, and features a Stonesfield-slate roof with brick gable stacks. It has an L-shaped plan. The front of the house has two storeys and originally had a central doorway, now a window. It includes a 12-pane sash window to the left and a renewed, ovolo-moulded, three-light transomed casement window to the right. The first floor has leaded casements with 2, 3, and 3 lights. The central window retains an original 17th century ovolo-moulded frame, while the left window has an 18th century replacement. The left gable wall retains a small, old, leaded casement, and a three-light ovolo-moulded casement is located at the rear of the building. The short rear wing, extending from the right end, contains late 17th to early 18th century casements, one of which has an elaborate latch plate. The interior features stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and a large chimney breast. The house was originally built with a through-passage plan.
