Description

This is a farmhouse, dating from the early to mid-17th century, with significant remodelling and extensions around 1800. It is constructed of limestone rubble, some squared and coursed, with ashlar dressings and a Welsh-slate roof, featuring brick stacks. The building is arranged in a T-shape.

The front of the farmhouse is characterised by a projecting element on the left-hand side of a two-window wing, both parts having shallow-pitched roofs and boxed eaves. The two-window wing features 16-pane sashes with projecting keyblocks. The projecting element has two blind first-floor windows, a two-light stone-mullioned window at ground floor, and a C20 porch sheltering the front entrance, which now has a six-panel double door. The rear of this wing has two sections, with renewed sashes and a small, 19th-century conservatory with an apsidal shape. The left side of the main range shows evidence of several phases of building, with a central gable, two sashes and some earlier windows.

A lower range extends from the rear of the main range and is now partially used as a flat. It has two ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned windows with labels, one of three lights and the other of two.

Inside, the drawing room contains heavy plaster cornices and an open fireplace with a massive, chamfered, cambered bressumer. A staircase hall dating to around 1800 features a sweeping staircase, six-panel doors (one with an ornamental overlight) and a round-headed display niche with serpentine shelves. An earlier alcove has serpentine shelves and carved scroll brackets. C17 winder stairs lead to the attics. The rear wing has a heavy, chamfered doorframe, a stop-chamfered beam, a large open fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer and a bread oven.
