Description

This building is an outbuilding located approximately 20 metres northwest of the Manor House. It was originally a farmhouse, dated 1652, with an 18th-century addition and a 19th-century conversion. The structure is made of coursed gritstone and features a graduated stone slate roof. It has two storeys and two bays, with an added bay to the left and a two-bay range from the 19th century to the right. The building has quoins.

On the left side, there is a blocked doorway that has been converted into a window, featuring chamfered quoined jambs and a cambered lintel carved with recessed panels and raised lettering that reads "T 1652 F". The ground floor has recessed chamfered mullion windows in the centre and to the right, although the central window is blocked and partially destroyed by an inserted byre doorway with a plain lintel and jambs. There is also a two-light window on the ground floor to the right, but its mullion is missing. On the first floor, there is one central three-light window and a two-light window to the right, both of which are missing a mullion.

The added bay to the left features a cambered arch entrance on the east side with quoined jambs. The two-bay range to the right has a central stable door flanked by four-light windows, and a large carriage entrance in the right bay, which has quoined jambs and a wooden lintel. Inside the oldest part of the building, there is a fireplace on the left with 18th-century stone jambs and a flat lintel.

The house may have been constructed by a member of the Fawcett family. The added outbuilding is a common feature from the 18th century in the area, while the 19th-century stable and carriage house likely date from the alterations made to the Manor House. This building is included for its group value.
