Description
Monk's is a house dating from around 1400, located on Marden Road in Goudhurst. It features a timber frame with large panels, exposed plaster, and some red brick infill, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building has a four-bay end jettied hall house plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, resting on a red brick plinth. The jetty is supported by brackets on the left end, and there are arched braces at the eaves level. The hipped roof has stacks positioned to the centre left and projects at the left end, with two hipped dormers. There are four leaded wooden casements on each floor, arranged in groups of three, two, three, and one lights, along with a boarded door located to the centre left. Inside, the house retains four centred arched service doorways in the cross-passage, a large scantling frame, and a soot-blackened sans-purlin roof, where each pair of rafters is trussed by a collar. Additionally, there are inglenook fireplaces.
