Description

Gore Cottage is a house dating to the late 15th century. It is timber framed with brick infilling on the ground floor and tile hanging on the first floor, topped with a plain tile roof. Originally built as a 2-bay open hall, it has a single-storeyed bay at each end. The house now appears as two storeys and four timber-framed bays.

The south elevation has a stone plinth, a jetty at the left end, and a hipped roof with a gablet at the right end. A ridge stack is located off-centre to the left. There are three first-floor casement windows, one near each end and one in the centre, which merge with eaves dormers directly above them. A 20th-century lean-to has been added at the right end, containing a door. A single-storey, single-bay extension is recessed from the south elevation and was likely built in the 19th century. This extension is timber framed with almost straight arch braces, brick infilling and a plain tile roof.

The interior features moulded end-of-hall beams, moulded central-truss posts, a fragment of a moulded crown-post, evidence for a former staircase, and a right-end jetty.
