Description

Barty House is an early 18th-century house with additions from the early 19th century and later alterations. It is constructed of red brick with a plain tile roof. The house has two storeys, attics, and a basement, and features a moulded brick string course, a moulded brick eaves cornice, and a plain stone coped parapet. The ground floor is painted red, with some areas showing traces of tuck or painted pointing. The roof is hipped to the right and gabled behind the parapet to the left, with end stacks and two hipped dormers. The front elevation has a regular five-window layout of glazing-bar sash windows, each with rubbed brick voussoirs; the ground-floor windows have segmental heads. First-floor windows are hooded. A large early 19th-century porch extends up four steps, supported by fluted Doric columns with a deep entablature and a flat hood. The porch has an early 19th-century door with fielded panels and an ornate rectangular fanlight. The left-hand elevation incorporates a two-storey canted bay in a style matching the front elevation, which is integrated with 19th-century rear additions. Further two-storey red brick additions are visible at the rear.
