Description
Roundwell is a house dating from the late 16th century and early 17th century, featuring an earlier cross-wing that is timber-framed with painted brick nogging and plaster infilling. The roof is plain tiled. The main section has two low storeys set on a tall stone plinth, with widely spaced studding and an arch brace at the front, along with a tension brace to the gable end. The roof is half-hipped at the right end, and there is a central brick ridge stack. An eaves dormer lights the first floor at the left end. The fenestration is irregular, including one small two-light casement. There is a central rubbed door accessed by a flight of steps beneath the stack, with a blocked door immediately to the right. The cross wing has two storeys and is jettied at the front, featuring widely spaced studding and long arched braces on the first floor. The roof is hipped towards the road, with the eaves higher and the ridge slightly lower than the main range. A projecting brick stack is located at the left end. The first floor has one three-light casement, while the ground floor retains an original diamond wood mullion window. There is also a door with fielded panels on the left side elevation.
