Description
Grove Place is a house with a core dating from the 17th century, which was altered and extended in the 18th century and mid-19th century. It features painted brickwork, tile hung gables, and part tile hung rear elevations, with a possible fully framed core. The roof is plain tiled and hipped, rising over two storeys on a plinth, with two large bargeboarded gables on the left and right sides, and stacks on both ends, the right stack being larger. The windows are regularly arranged, with three glazing bar sashes on the first floor and two sashes on the ground floor. A central panelled door is set in a gabled porch, which has an arched outer door and arched sidelights. The return elevations have three glazing bar sashes, although one is blocked on each floor of the left return, and there is a canted bay on the right return. The house has three rear wings, two with hipped roofs and one with a half hipped roof. The interior is mainly from the 19th century, featuring a turned baluster staircase and cross-beamed ceilings. The building was once used as a school.
