Description
This is a house built in 1899 by Sir Reginald Blomfield, designed in the Queen Anne style. It is constructed of red brick laid in stretcher bond, with stone dressings. The roof is tiled, with four brick chimney stacks. The house has two storeys and attics, and originally had seven windows. Architectural details include a deep wooden eaves cornice with modillions, prominent quoins, and a band below the cornice that extends into the keystones of the three central windows. There are three curved dormers with triple leaded lights in the roof. The windows are 12-pane sashes in reveals; the three central windows have stone keystones. A plinth runs along the base. A central doorcase features a curved pediment supported by brackets, an elaborate keystone, and an eared architrave. The double doors are six panelled, with the top four panels glazed. Attached to either side of the house are sections of garden wall, approximately 10 feet high, built in Flemish bond with stone coping. The walls terminate in brick piers crowned with ball finials. The left-hand side elevation features three triple sash windows. The rear elevation has a recessed central section with two 12-pane sashes with jalousies, and central French windows leading onto an iron balcony supported by four piers. A late 20th-century dormer has been added to the roof. The wings of the house have curved dormers and triple sash windows with elaborate keystones. The interior includes a sitting room with a segmental fanlight, Tuscan columns, a balustered staircase, and early 18th century style panelling. A large and elaborate fireplace is present, featuring an eared architrave, brackets, and an oval feature above, also with an eared architrave. Panelled doors are also incorporated.
