Description

A house located on Goodhurst Marden Road, Finchurst, dating from the 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in 1622 and around 1900. The house is timber framed and has exposed close studding with plaster infill, topped with a plain tiled roof. It is an end-jettied hall house, originally open but later floored in and extended with a cross-wing in 1622. The ground floor sits on a red brick base. The left end has a jetty, and the eaves step down towards the centre to create a storey and a half. The cross-wing to the right has a hipped roof, with the hip supported by carved brackets featuring pendants and a moulded bressummer. The main roof is half-hipped, with a gablet and chimney stacks at the rear right and a tall, central moulded stack, featuring a diagonal section fillet and cornices. A gabled semi-dormer with bargeboards is located centrally to the left and bears the date 1622. A gabled porch, dating from around 1900, is positioned centrally to the right and contains a boarded door. There are three-light wooden casement windows on each floor.
