Description

The Vine Hotel and Assembly Room is a public house located in Goudhurst, with an 18th-century exterior that covers an earlier structure, which was extended in 1874. The building is timber framed and clad with painted brick and tile hanging, with the main elevation painted. It features plain tiled roofs and stands two storeys high with a basement on a plinth. The roof is hipped to the left and half-hipped to the right, stepping down to a recessed two-storey hipped wing on the left. There are stacks at the rear, one to the left and one projecting at both ends.

On the first floor, there are four wooden casement windows, while the ground floor has two multi-paned windows and a multi-paned bow/oriel window to the centre left. The centre right has doubled half-glazed doors set in a gabled porch, and there is a half-glazed door to the left in the recessed wing. A basement opening is located to the centre left. The rear elevation includes hipped and tile-hung wings with glazing bar sashes.

Inside, the frame is partly visible, and the interior floor levels step down considerably from right to left. Attached to the rear right and ascending the High Street is the Assembly Room built in 1874. This structure is made of red brick with tile-hung returns and rear elevations, topped with a slate roof. It is one storey high with a basement and has a stack at the end right. The Assembly Room features two glazing bar sashes with basement openings below, a cell with gauged heads, and a boarded door to the left, which has a semicircular fanlight and gauged surround, along with an iron lamp bracket above.
