Description

The Wilkins headstone, dated 1765, is located approximately 3.5 meters south of the chancel of the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Speldhurst. This headstone is an upright sandstone slab that stands about 1 meter high. It features a double curvilinear shaped head, and the front fielded panel is inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. The inscription commemorates the deaths of John Wilkins in 1765 and his wife Mary, although her date of burial is not provided.
