Description
The Swan Hotel is a hotel that dates back to the late medieval period, featuring an open hall with its gable end facing the road. It has a 18th-century extension on the front right, which was refenestrated in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed and has been refronted in stucco, topped with an old pegtiled roof and brick chimneystacks. It stands two storeys high with attics, showcasing five windows on the front and three on the side. The front elevation includes three flat-roofed dormers with casement windows. The first floor has five 20th-century casements, while the ground floor features four 20th-century bow windows and a wooden doorcase with a wide flat hood supported by brackets.
On the left side elevation, there is one hipped dormer, one 12-pane sash window, and two casements, one of which has leaded lights. The right side elevation contains 20th-century casements in the attics and a later bay. Inside, there is a 17th-century well staircase with an early 19th-century stair rail located at the rear right side. An internal wooden mullion is blocked by the staircase. The first floor reveals exposed jowled posts and a 16th-century three-plank door. An inglenook fireplace has been reported but is concealed by 18th and 19th-century alterations, along with a crownpost roof.
