Description
59 and 61 High Street is a pair of shops with living accommodation above, dating from the 16th century or earlier. The timber-framed building was remodeled in the early 19th century and is finished in stucco with a hipped tiled roof. It features a moulded wooden eaves cornice and stands three storeys high with five windows. Number 61 has two 16-pane sash windows with intact glazing bars, while number 59 has sashes without glazing bars but with horns. Number 61 includes a 20th-century shopfront, whereas number 59 has a late 19th-century shopfront with a deep fascia. The side elevation features a 16th-century plank door. Inside number 59, there is a brattished dais beam and early 16th-century linenfold panelling, along with a door made of 12 panels of linenfold panelling. To the right, there is some 17th-century plank and muntin panelling, a roll moulded beam, and an upright post on a chamfered stone base. The ground floor window has an original 16th-century stone surround, and there is a 19th-century marble fireplace.
