Description

The Star Hotel is a hotel located on Hall Quay in Great Yarmouth, dating from the mid-17th century. It is a two-storey building with a dormer attic that was raised to its current height around 1890. The original 17th-century structure is made of knapped flint, while the rest is constructed of brick with false timbering, topped with machine tile roofs. The building likely had a six-window range originally.

On the ground floor, there is a bay window on the left featuring two 6/6 unhorned sashes. To the right, there are two 17th-century window openings with painted chamfered jambs, now fitted with two 6/6 unhorned sashes. A central revolving door is located to the left of a blind window, alongside a bay window and a 20th-century door. The first floor has a series of chamfered window openings that lead onto a late 19th-century enclosed balcony beneath a sloping roof. The upper floors, added around 1890, feature half-timbering and a central canted bay that rises into a gable, with one smaller bay on either side. The windows here are 12/1 sashes, and the building has a gabled roof. A three-storey brick rear block was added between 1972 and 1973.

Inside, the cellar has plastered brick walls. The main front ground-floor room features large-framed panelling from the mid-18th century, which has been reused from another location. There are moulded boxes on the bridging beams and reeded pilasters on the early 20th-century chimney-piece.
