Description
The Royal Oak Hotel and Royal Oak Shades is a hotel located at No. 66 on Harbour Parade in Ramsgate. The core of the building dates back to 1690, but it was largely rebuilt in 1748 and again in the early 19th century. The structure is made of rendered and painted brick, topped with a slate roof. It stands four storeys high with a basement, featuring a cornice at the parapet and a hipped roof with stacks at the rear.
The building has a canted corner and displays four sash windows, with one located at the corner on the third floor. To the right, there is a three-storey canted bay that includes sash windows on the second, first, and ground floors, while the left side has three sash windows on each floor. On the ground floor to the left, there are two plate windows and double panelled doors with a fanlight above.
An early 19th-century extension to the left matches the height of the main building and features two sash windows on both the third and second floors, a large plate glass window, and a balcony on the first floor, along with a glazed 20th-century bar front on the ground floor.
