Description

The former Alexandra Hotel is a public house built in 1907. It features red and stone-coloured greyed tiles and bricks, with terracotta details. The building has three storeys and an attic. The ground floor is recessed and has a cornice at the first floor that supports four Doric pilasters. Above this, a cornice at the second floor supports four Ionic pilasters. There is a modillion cornice at the ramped parapet, which is adorned with urn finials and a central pedimented loggia or portico supported by three piers. The attic has two glazing bar sash windows behind a lower leaf plate glass. There are chimney stacks on both the left and right sides. Originally, the building was topped by a dome.

The upper floors feature double sashes with glazing bars on the left and right sides of the second floor, and two bars on the left and right sides of the first floor. Both floors have moulded and keyed semi-circular arches leading to recessed balconies, with only the upper balcony having a balustrade. The second floor has sashes, while the first floor has French doors. The ground floor includes a large segmental bow with plate glass windows and central boarded doors, as well as stained glass recessed windows on either side. The interior contains a circular arcaded room that is top-lit and features coloured glass. The building was under reconstruction at the time of the re-survey.
