Description
No. 16 Hall Quay is a public library that has been converted into a shop and offices. It was built in the mid-19th century by architect Anthony Salvin. The building is constructed of stuccoed brick and features a slate roof. It stands three stories tall and has a three-window range, with the central section stepping forward from narrow side fillets. The ground floor was altered in the late 20th century to accommodate a shop front. On the first floor, there are three 4/4 unhorned sash windows, with a central blank roundel above framed by consoles on either side. A deep string course runs below the second floor, which features a Venetian window that is broken forward under an open pediment, supported by volutes on both sides. The roof is gabled. Inside, the upper floor retains a moulded cornice.
