Description
The Lion and Pheasant Hotel is a hotel that likely dates back to the 16th century but was refronted in the early 18th century. It has a roughcast render over brick with timber-framing at the rear and a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and attic dormers, featuring a six-window range. To the right, there is a late 19th-century shop front, while to the left, a doorway is flanked by sash windows with two and twelve panes. A segmental archway leads to the rear courtyard on the left side. The upper windows are twelve-pane sashes, and the building has two string courses. The roof includes three gabled dormers and gable end stacks. Internally, traces of the timber frame are visible, and the rear wing is entirely timber framed, featuring square panels with some arched bracing in timbers of slight scantling. In the east-facing wall, there is evidence of phasing, with a close-studded section adjoining the main range that is framed separately from the rest. There are also inserted casement windows.
