Description

The Grotto, located 15 yards south of the South East Water Offices, is a mock ruin built around 1850. It is constructed from random stone, with some unusual brick elements. The structure features two bastions that contain interior tunnel vaults made of brick, and a central passageway that is divided in the middle by a re-used moulded and cusped arch, which has springing for additional arches on either side. At the time of the last survey, the Grotto was covered in honeysuckle.
