Description
This listing describes a headstone with a barrel tomb located about 10 meters southwest of the Church of St. Laurence in Ramsgate. The structure dates from the early 19th century and features a stone inscription that is now illegible. The headstone stands approximately 3½ feet high and is designed in a Neo-classical style, adorned with beaded roundels beneath acroteria. It has a filleted round top and includes a half-relief depiction of an urn flanked by two female mourners, one standing and the other kneeling. The barrel tomb is made of two pieces, accompanied by a footstone that also features acroteria. The headstone commemorates Richard Maye, who died in 1705, and the footstone is about 1½ feet high, with an outlined head and a winged hourglass design.
