Description

A pair of houses, now offices, dates to the early 19th century. The building is constructed of stock brick, partly rendered, with a slate roof. It is two storeys and an attic, with projecting pavilions to the left and right, and recessed wings in between. The roof is a mansard with three semi-circular dormers; the wings have hipped roofs, and stacks are arranged from left to right. The central five-bay section has glazing bar sash windows, with the second and fourth bays set within segmental recesses on each floor. The other windows are single, with recessed panels over the ground floor windows, which also have panelled aprons. A heavy panelled door with a rectangular fanlight replaces a former sash window in the second bay. The ground floors of the pavilions are horizontally rusticated, with recessed panels on the first floor and a recessed lunette on the attic storey, all containing glazing bar sashes. The building has a cornice parapet. The recessed porches have doors of six panels and Doric columns in antis with segmental tympanums. The two-storey wings have a rendered ground floor with replacement windows to the right; the first floor has a glazing bar sash window in a segmental recess. The left wing has two glazing bar sashes on the ground floor, with a tripartite glazing bar sash above.
