Description

This is a group of six headstones located south of the chancel of the Church of St. Laurence. The headstones commemorate various individuals and date from the early 18th century to the mid-18th century.

The first headstone is for William Dear, who died in 1719. It stands about 2 feet high and features a crudely scrolled head with simple lilies and an hourglass design. The second headstone is for Robert Long, who died in 1723, and is approximately 3 feet high, displaying similar motifs but is damaged.

The third headstone commemorates William Curling, who died in 1725. It is about 3 feet high and has Rocaille scrolled shoulders, a broken outline, cherub heads, and sunburst motifs. The fourth headstone is for Esther and John Curling, who died in 1730. This one is about 2.5 feet high, with a double segmental head featuring two skulls in a filleted surround.

The fifth headstone is for Moses Read, who died in 1743. It stands about 3 feet high and has foliate scrolled shoulders, a pediment-shaped cornice with a cherub's head, and swirling clouds. Finally, the sixth headstone commemorates William Darling, who died in 1753. It is approximately 3.5 feet high, with a plaque featuring festooned sides, foliate scrolled shoulders, a scrolled egg and tongue cornice, and cherub heads in a sunburst design.
