Description

Darenth Cottage is a 15th-century Wealden house, largely intact but with the right section obscured by a projecting modern shop extension. The building has two storeys and features a hipped, tiled roof with small ridge gables and an off-centre chimney stack. The first floor overhangs on the left, supported by carved corner braces. The centre is recessed, with arch braces that support the roof. The exterior showcases exposed heavy timber framing, with plaster or whitewashed brick filling. The east elevation has been altered with modern additions, and various small, restored leaded casements can be found. Inside, there is much exposed framing, including a spere truss and a fine carved crown post in the attic.
