Description

This is a 15th-century Wealden house situated in Bignor village. It is a timber-framed building set upon a stone base. The house features a recessed central section with curved brackets supporting the eaves, and the first floors of the flanking wings project on brackets. The central section incorporates plaster infill and some red brick, including a section laid in a herringbone pattern. The wings are filled with a mix of plaster and flint, also displaying curved braces. The roof is steeply pitched and thatched, with a pentice on the south side. Casement windows feature diamond-shaped panes. The rear, or east, elevation is entirely faced with flint. The house is two storeys high and has three windows. Historically, the building served as the village shop and has been extensively documented in numerous publications concerning the history of English houses.
