Description
This barn, located approximately 7 yards south of Home Farmhouse, dates from the late 15th century or early 16th century. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, standing on a stone plinth with a hipped plain tile roof and a central 19th-century louvre. The original entrance was centrally located but has since been moved to the left gable end.
Inside, the barn features three bays with an aisle at the rear. The central bay is narrow, and there are posts on post plates. Curved braces connect the principal posts to the arcade plate at the rear and the wall-plate at the front, as well as to the tie-beams. The plain crown post has two curved upward braces and mortices for two downward braces. The pitch of the roof was altered in the 19th century, and it has clasped side purlins that reuse the original rafters. The left end of the barn may have been floored at some point, and there is a lean-to structure at the right end.
