Description
This barn, located about 18 metres south of Bell Farm House, dates back to the early 16th century. It is timber-framed and weatherboarded, standing on a brick plinth. The barn features a hipped plain tile roof, with the rear half on both sides decorated with alternating bands of plain and fishscale tiles. The structure is positioned at right angles to the road and has a 19th-century lean-to at the rear gable end. There is a canopied porch from the 18th or 19th century with boarded doors on both the right side (north-west) and the left side (south-east), as well as mid-20th century full-height boarded doors facing the street.
Inside, the barn consists of four bays, with aisles on both sides. There is a midstrey in the third bay from the street, which contains the remains of what may have been a 19th-century threshing floor. The posts feature gunstock jowls and are supported by curved braces connecting to the tie-beams and arcade plates. The crown-posts are plain, with two curved braces extending downward and two upward, although some of the braces are missing.
