Description

Dial House is a house located on East Street in Harrietsham. The rear wing dates from the early 17th century, while the main part of the house was built in 1769 and altered in the early 19th century. The ground floor features grey headers with red brick dressings, and the first floor is tile-hung. The roof is covered with plain tiles and is half-hipped to the right. The building has two storeys set on a stone plinth with a moulded wood eaves cornice. A red brick ridge stack is located at the left end, with a rear stack on the right. The facade has irregular fenestration, including one small painted window towards the left end. The rest of the facade is double-fronted, featuring a central glazing-bar sash window with tripartite sashes on either side. There are canted bay windows on red brick bases at the ground floor. The entrance is an off-centre half-glazed and panelled door, which is central to the double front, accessed by four steps and topped with a flat corniced bracketed hood. Plain handrails with fleur-de-lys designs are attached to the ends. A datestone from 1769 is visible on the chimney stack to the left. To the left of the main house is a later two-storey cottage. The rear wing is a single bay that is timber-framed, and the interior features exposed timbers.
