Description
This barn, located about 50 metres southeast of Duckhurst Farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century and is now used as a store. It features a timber frame, is weatherboarded, and has a corrugated iron roof. The barn consists of four timber-framed bays arranged at right angles to the road and has a hipped roof. There are low double doors on the third timber-framed bay from the left (east). To the left, there is a 19th-century single-storey addition with two bays.
Inside, the barn has gunstock jowls on the principal posts and arch-braced tie-beams. The roof is constructed with clasped purlins and principal rafters that do not diminish in size. Some rafters are re-used from a lapped collar roof, and there are tension braces on the walls. The wall-plates feature edge-halved scarf-joints, and the barn includes re-used posts and studding from a medieval building. The 19th-century addition has been subdivided into four loose boxes, which include wooden feeding troughs. The barn is noted for its group value with the surrounding buildings.
