Description
This is a barn dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is timber-framed and has been weatherboarded, with a corrugated asbestos roof. The barn originally comprised 12 bays, with a 2-bay extension to the west. The timber frame features long posts without jowls, with primary bracing made of cut studs, including some re-used timber. Tie beam trusses are present, with ogee braces in the first two bays from the east, and arched or straight bracing in the remainder. Re-used moulded timber is visible in the 7th bay from the east. Peg-jointed queen struts support a single range of purlins, with some bays having added high-level collars, slender rafters and a thin ridge board, midstreys to the 4th bay. There are pairs of doors in the 8th and 11th bays of the north side. The 11th bay has a stone-flagged floor, while the remainder of the barn has a concrete floor. The west extension runs into the 12th bay of the main barn and contains an inserted loft, with the ground floor adapted for livestock, featuring feed troughs, stall divisions, and hay racking. A long, single-storey livestock house, built in the 19th century with yellow stock brick and a Welsh slate roof, projects from the south-east corner. A steel-framed, open-sided store with a corrugated asbestos roof projects from the main south wall. These later additions are not considered to be of particular interest.
