Description

Great Cozens is a house dating to circa 1800, with a western wing added in the mid-19th century in a matching style. It is a two-storey stucco building with a hipped slate roof and plastered soffits to the overhanging eaves. The main part of the house is rectangular, in a Regency style, with a central entrance on its narrow south end, featuring two front-wall chimneys. The façade has a three-window front, which was extended by the addition of a narrow west wing, displaying three grouped windows on each floor of its south side, and a single window to each floor on its west end. A square, pillared porch shelters a half-glazed door set within a triple-frame with a fanlight of intersecting circles. Recessed sash windows with 6/6 panes are situated to each side of the door, each with a moulded wooden cornice at the head and louvred shutters. Three similar sash windows above also have shutters. The three grouped upper windows in the west wing are similar, while the ground floor windows are interspersed by shallow pilasters with moulded caps around window head height. Similar pilasters flanking the west end lower window support a shallow elliptical blind arch. The garden front, on the east, has a semi-circular, parapeted stucco bay window next to the front corner and three triple sash windows to the upper floor. Two sash windows and French doors are located to the right of the bay window. The interior retains contemporary fittings, including moulded panelled doors, shutters, and chimney pieces. The site was a manorial centre in the later Middle Ages.
