Description
The Small House at Fanhams Hall is a garden building constructed between 1901 and 1905. It is part of a Japanese garden designed by Professor Suzuki and Mr. Inaka for R B and A E Page Croft. This timber structure is raised on stone pads and features a boarded back and a hipped roof with gablets. Positioned on a mound, the Small House was designed to resemble a Shinto shrine, specifically the Fox Shrine 'Azuma-Inari', and it was originally thatched. The building is a small, rectangular, single-storey structure with sliding half-glazed wooden doors at the front and ends, which include margin lights. Inside, there is a cane ceiling and a boarded floor.
