Description
The Japanese House at Fanhams Hall is a garden building dating from 1900. It is part of a Japanese garden designed by Professor Suzuki and Mr. Inaka for R B and A E Page Croft. The structure features a timber frame, with some parts weatherboarded and a red pantile hipped roof, along with tiled pentice roofs on the lower verandah. This genuine Japanese tea house was imported and constructed under Japanese supervision. Known as 'Sei - Shin - tei', meaning 'House of the pure heart', it serves as a retreat separate from the main house. The building is two stories high and has verandahs surrounding both levels. It includes half-glazed wooden sliding screens with margin lights, while the lower sections at the ends are weatherboarded.
