Description
Austrian House at Fanhams Hall is a garden building dating from around 1901. It was exhibited at the Paris Exhibition of 1900 before being obtained by R B Page Croft and re-erected at this location. The structure features a timber frame with infill, a low-pitched hipped upper roof that extends to the sides with a steeper pitch and a decorative edge. It stands one and a half storeys tall and has an external stair at the rear. The walls are made of moulded edged boards that fill the spaces between the uprights. The windows are adorned with vigorous baroque surrounds and louvred shutters. The front of the building has a galleried upper section with painted peasant figures forming the balustrade above a cornice at floor level. There is a door on the left and a window on the right below, with a moulded door frame that has decorative edges to the hood. The door itself is a two-panel design featuring a decorative pattern of radial boarding, nail-heads, and decorative ironwork.
