Terraces, Steps And Cistern At Fanhams Hall On West Side Of House

The terraces, steps, and cistern at Fanhams Hall were built around 1901 by W Wood Bethell for R B Croft as part of the rebuilding of Fanhams Hall. The structure features stone paving, limestone balustrades, piers, and steps. There is a red brick wall with stone dressings on the west side of the upper terrace. The lower terrace includes wrought iron gates and a bronze lotus-shaped bowl in a stone cistern located in the middle. The balustrades are designed as rusticated stone arcades with heavy moulded coping that rises to square piers with knobs. The brick wall has a scalloped top, and there are Arts and Crafts iron gates leading to two flights of steps at the west end of the upper balustrade.
