3/196 Terrace walls, balustrades and steps to north of Unthank Hall GV II

Terrace walls, balustrades and steps. Probably mid C19 but brought to Unthank c.1900. Rock-faced masonry with ashlar dressings. Terrace retaining wall has rounded projections at east end, in centre and at north-west corner, from which it returns south for a short distance. Balustrade with urn balusters and flat moulded coping, between tooled ashlar piers with urn finials; some finials replaced by carvings of birds and animals. Flights of steps in centre and at each end of wall. Further flights from drive down onto terrace, in centre and near west end. Each flight of steps flanked at head and foot by low piers with urn finials.
