Description
The gate piers, gate, and garden wall to the west of Unthank Hall date from the mid-19th century. They are constructed with rock-faced masonry and feature ashlar dressings, terracotta balusters, and a wooden and wrought-iron gate. The ashlar gate piers have attached jambs, a dentil cornice, moulded caps, and ball finials. The gates include open panels with trellis work and a scrolled overthrow. To the left, the wall carries an urn balustrade and extends to a similar pier, linked by a flat-coped wall that marks the remains of the west wing, which was demolished in 1965, leading to the north-west corner of the house. A similar wall to the right extends to another pier and then returns south; this section features a central semicircular projection and ends at a fifth pier.
