Description

This is a model farm building dating from 1901, likely designed by W Wood Bethell, the architect of Fanhams Hall, for the Croft family. The building is constructed with a high red brick plinth and plastered walls above, featuring brick surrounds to the openings and pilasters. Red tiled roofs cover the structure.

The main range runs east to west and is a single storey, with four gabled wings projecting to the south, creating yards enclosed by brick walls and piers topped with knobs. The central part of the main range, rising to one and a half storeys, has three gabled dormers on the north side and a central clock cupola with a vane. Smaller square, louvred vents with knobs are situated on the roofs of the lower ranges.

The block was originally divided into distinct areas: stables in the centre and east portions, a barn in the northwest section, an implement shed open to the west in the western range, and a larger cowhouse projecting centrally to the south. Segmental arched sash windows are present throughout. Decorative bargeboards adorn the gables, and the west range features a dormer with a curved pediment. Plasterwork bearing the dates '1901' and a Croft monogram is visible on the southwest gable.
