Description

The Iron Road Bridge over The New River is a road bridge dating from 1824. It is constructed of cast iron and features a wrought iron balustrade. The bridge has segmental arched iron girders on each face, with open spandrels that include two circles. There is a raised band and a central 'keystone' that displays the date. Additionally, raised lettering on the girder reads: 'New River Company: Priestfield's Iron Works near Bilston.' This bridge is noted as the earliest remaining bridge along The New River in Hertfordshire and was built while William Chadwell Mylne, who lived from 1781 to 1863, served as the company's engineer.
