Description
Empire Cottage Gallery is a house, now part of a row of houses, dating from the 17th century or earlier. It features a timber-framed structure, with the ground floor clad in painted brick arranged in Flemish bond and the first floor finished with tile hanging. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The building runs parallel to the street and has a broad wing on the left that projects slightly forward. The wing is two storeys tall, while the rest of the building has two storeys and an attic. The wing has a gable facing the street, with its eaves lower than those of the main range. There is a large projecting rear stack on a stone base at the centre of the main range, along with another projecting external stack on the right side of the wing. A small hipped dormer is present, and the windows are arranged irregularly, consisting of four in total: one two-light 19th-century casement in the wing and three glazing-bar sashes in the main range. The left side elevation of Empire Cottage features a half-glazed and panelled door, while a 20th-century ribbed door is located towards the left end of the main range. To the right, there is a single-storey 19th-century addition with a 14-pane shop window and a half-glazed door. The interior has not been inspected.
