Description
This barn, located about 17 metres south of Chegworth Court, dates back to the early 17th century. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, standing on a stone plinth with a corrugated asbestos roof. The barn is positioned at right angles to the road and features four timber-framed bays, with front and rear aisles, an integral right end aisle towards the road, and a 19th-century left end lean-to. The roof is hipped, and there are full-height double doors in the second bay from the right, with the aisle interrupted in front of them. Formerly, there were similar doors at the rear.
Inside, the barn has posts on wooden cills, cut jowls, and curved passing shores. There are arch braces supporting the tie-beams and arcade plates, as well as an edge-halved scarf joint. Some of the studding has been replaced. The roof structure consists of clasped purlins with reducing principal rafters.
